Key take away

In keratinized tinea pedis, 2% crisaborole ointment + amorolfine hydrochloride cream markedly reduces DLQI scores, increases overall treatment success, and shortens the time to resolution of itching, scaling, and chafing.

Background

This study determined the clinical effectiveness of 2% crisaborole ointment combined with amorolfine hydrochloride (antifungal) cream in the treatment of keratinized tinea pedis (fungal infection of the feet).

Method

In total, 100 patients diagnosed with keratotic tinea pedis were randomly assigned into two groups:

  • Observation group: Treated with 2% crisaborole ointment + amorolfine hydrochloride cream once daily for 4 weeks
  • Control group: Treated with white vaseline and amorolfine hydrochloride cream once daily for 4 weeks

Outcomes were assessed based on clinical response, incidence of adverse reactions, and changes in dermatology life quality index (DLQI) scores.

Result

After 4 weeks of therapy, the observation group illustrated a significantly higher total effective rate when compared with the control group (Table 1).

Symptom relief (particularly pruritus duration) and DLQI scores was notably shorter in the observation group at both the 2-week and 4-week evaluations (Table 2).

No prominent difference was observed between the two groups regarding adverse event rates.

Conclusion

The addition of 2% crisaborole ointment significantly enhanced the therapeutic efficacy of amorolfine hydrochloride cream in patients with keratinized tinea pedis, offering faster symptom relief without increasing adverse reactions.
